Who we are

Why We Believe Transformation Is Spiritual at Its Core

Oaks of Righteousness is a faith-based, nonprofit residential program that offers support for female ex-offenders who desire to make positive life changes and become productive members of society.

We believe every woman has inherent dignity and purpose — and that with time, structure, and the Lord’s love, lasting transformation is possible.

OUR MISSION : To help women pursue healing, strengthen their identity in Christ, and become confident, contributing members of society.

OUR HISTORY

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

What began as a series of prison ministry visits grew into a vision for something more. As our founder, Beth Whittier, sat with women incarcerated in Texas, she heard story after story of addiction, trauma, broken families, and fear of life after release. In 2012 she asked, “If we don’t help these women re-enter society, who will?”

With the support of friends and churches, Beth launched Oaks of Righteousness and began raising funds for the first residential home. In 2014, the first house opened, and by Christmas, Oaks welcomed its first residents. Since then:

A second house opened in 2021, expanding our capacity and community.

In 2023 we added a third home, allowing us to double our program size and extend affordable housing and support for women continuing education or training.

Today, Oaks of Righteousness continues to grow — rooted in Scripture, sustained by prayerful support, and shaped by the faithful work of staff, volunteers, and partners.

Charity grew up in a physically, mentally and emotionally abusive home. At the age of 10, she was drinking and using drugs. She dropped out in 8th grade and was a mother before she was 17.

She had been sent to prison three times before she found the Oaks of Righteousness. With the support of her husband, “God opened my eyes and showed me that even I could be a new creation in Christ.”

She graduated from the Oaks and became involved in prison ministry. Now, she is our Executive Director. Here’s how the Oaks transforms lives.
